Still Here...

Hi Folks!

Yeah, it's been a long time since you heard from me, I know, about a year, in fact. And, what a year it's been! It's funny how you really don't see what's coming. If you did, you might duck or scramble to get out of the way, but I suppose there's a great deal of learning and growing in having those experiences that you would shrink from or simply not chose. And, that's *why* you can't see 'em coming. Am I right?

Anyway, after all that "learning" and "growing," I've kept my head down a bit. But, you can only do that for so long, and I think I'm done with that for now.

So, there's not a whole lot on the musical horizon to speak of, but there are a few things to tell you about.

First, this Saturday, March 12, I'll be participating in the Annual Goddess Festival, a three-day, multi-venue dance-and-music event. I'll be performing at the luscious, artsy, lovely Café Mezzaluna, 626 Route 212, Saugerties, where you will be able to hear many, many fine performers Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening. My set runs from about 5 pm to about 6 pm. Then, later on ~ much later on, I'll head over to BSP at 323 Wall Street in Kingston to support Peggy Atwood in her set, which starts around 11:15 pm.

Interestingly, a little gig just fell into my lap, as it were. I will be performing Monday night, March 14, at the Harmony Café (part of Wok 'N Roll) at 52 Mill Hill Road in Woodstock, NY. I really am not sure who else will be performing that night, but one possibility is an old friend of mine, the mesmerizing Eric Wood, "...a hipster troubadour whose exotica-laced folk/jazz tunes exert an almost hypnotic pull." (Billboard Magazine) He's simply one of the finest writers I have ever heard, and in fact, I cover a few of his tunes. I can't help it ~ they're SO good. But, it's only a possibility, so don't get your hopes up, and I won't, either. But, I will be there (barring some freak mid-March snowstorm, which you KNOW could happen).

And, at the very end of March (well, the 27th, actually), I will be performing a wee set with E.C. Lorick and Dawn Casteel-Lorick (when we're all together like that, with instruments in our hands, we're called GaiaWolf). Coincidentally, we'll be doing this little set back at Harmony, and this time it's a benefit for Haiti. Not sure yet what the time of the set will be, but I'll keep you posted.

There are more dates coming up in April, but you can check the calendar page of this very web site to become informed about those.

I'm glad to be getting back to doing this thing that I love so damn much, and I sincerely hope that you're doing what you love and what lights you up, too. I think that just makes for a better world. Don't you?

Be well, and I'll see you around ~ perhaps at one of these shows or perhaps somewhere else!

Peace and Love,
Marji
♪♫♪

Busy February!

Happy February!! Half the winter's behind us now and we are speeding toward longer days, warmer weather, and greener fields! OK, so perhaps we have to endure a bit of chilly, snowy weather before we get there, but how much sweeter the warm weather will feel! Right? At least that's what I keep telling myself!

Anyway, I guess I've got a kind of busy week coming up, and if you're in the neighborhood and want to get out of the house, this'd be a good way to do it! Besides, I'd love to see you. Here's what's upcoming:

* Tuesday February 9 at the Rosendale Café, 434 Main Street, Rosendale, New York. Music begins at 8pm, and also on the bill that night will be (in no particular order) Mark Brown, Eddie Fingerhut, Tony Curto, Tim Petteys, and Dana Pellela. (What a line-up!!)

* Friday, February 12 at Inquring Mind Bookstore & Café, 65 Partition Street, Saugerties, New York. This'll be just me by myself (well, I hope someone will be there to listen!!). Music starts at 7pm and goes until 9pm.

* Saturday, February 13 at the grand opening of the Indoor Florida Farmers Market, 480 Route 17A in Florida, New York. Music will start about 11:00 AM or so and go until 3pm or so. I'll be performing solo from about 11:00 until about 2pm, and then Estamos Listos will perform from 2 to 3pm. (More about this, below.)

* Sunday, February 14 at Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Café, located at 40 West Market Street, Red Hook, New York. Music starts at 12pm and goes until about 2pm. C'mon. How perfect would that be for Valentine's Day? Hangin' out in a "chocolate and coffee" shop listening to romantic music? Mmmmmm!!!

* Also Sunday, February 14, I'm delighted to be performing a private house concert in the evening!! (Just so you know.)

Also, I have a little news on the recording front: I've got a new collection of tunes available that I recorded on request, and folks are really enjoying it. And, I'm working on a new collection for him now; should be available in a week or two. You can pick up the new collection that I have available now or the old collection that I've had at any gig or by sending me an email and asking nicely.

Another new and interesting thing is the opening of an indoor farmers' market here in little Florida, New York, as you might've noticed, above. The thing is that I will likely be booking music for future dates of the market, so stay alert and I'll keep you posted about that.

And, of course, there are more dates coming up in the near and far future, so check out the schedule on this same web site for that.

So, thank YOU for making all this possible for me. 'Cause, you know, without you I'd just be talking to myself. And that'd be nuts!

Sending you my abundant love and appreciation,
Marji

Wow! What a Community!

Wow!! What a night last night!

We had an incredible turnout at the Haitian Quake Victims' Benefit. Judy Duboff's studio was full of warmth and joy and lots of music. Estamos Listos performed, as did percussionist Obi Kaye, who was mesmerizing and absolutely magical, Melinda Marks Burgard, who did some sweet and fun sing-alongs, and Dave (whose last name is escaping me now), who sang a couple of beautiful Haitian tunes that he had learned as well as some rhythms. I performed a beautiful, poignant piece just composed by E.C. Lorick (and, if the weather isn't too icy today, we'll record it) called Haiti Out from Under. Melissa Peterson spoke a bit about the time she and her husband spent living and working in Haiti and specifically about the beneficiary of our fundraiser, Hospital Albert Schweitzer Haiti.

And ~ as if all that weren't enough ~ we raised about $1300!!! WOW! We only took about 36 hours to plan this. Imagine if we had had 72 hours!! :-)

What's more, some folks really traveled a great distance to come!! I am in awe of this amazing, sweet community I get to be part of! I'll never know how I got to be so blessed!

So, I just want to thank everyone who came, everyone who brought delicious food and drink, everyone who donated something to the raffle, everyone who donated their cash, everyone who donated their music, and everyone who donated their joyous, beautiful energy ~ whether you were physically there or far away! You have my love and deepest gratitude!!!

Wow.

Happy New Year...

Hi, Folks!

Here it is, January 2010; out of the oughts and into the teens. So far, every date I've booked in December has either been snowed/iced on or the same was threatened. I'm hoping that I can break that somewhat unfortunate trend with the new year.

So, to start with, I'll be performing in a venue that everyone (except possibly me) will be able to get to, no matter what the weather: This Tuesday, January 5, 2010, I'll be performing on the radio! Radio host Gary McKeever has a show with DB Brown on WVKR-FM in Poughkeepsie, New York (the Vassar station) called "Hudson Valley Rag Shop," and they have invited me to be on their show! It airs from 6pm to 8pm (EST) on 91.3FM, but you can hear it live by visiting this link at http://www.wvkr.org and clicking on the link that says "listen now." So, no matter where you are on this blue-green marble, you'll be able to tune in, as it were. Tell your friends who live far away (if you want to).

But, there's more! If you physically live in or will be visiting the Hudson Valley region, I should let you know that I'll be performing a live show in a new venue, and I'd really LOVE it if you could come to this, if possible. Located in Bullville, New York, the venue is called, appropriately I guess, The Bull Pub, and it is situated at 2811 Route 17K near Route 17K's intersection with Route 302. It's pretty close to Pine Bush, New York, and not far from Route 17 (future I-86, as it is affectionately known), so this spot is convenient to folks who live in Ulster County, Orange County, Sullivan County and even Delaware, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties, if you're willing to drive a bit. And, let's not even mention the folks who live in Northern New Jersey and Northeastern PA! Why, I could make a case for it being convenient to folks who live in Toronto! Getting back to reality, now, the music starts at around 8pm. The proprietor, a nice fellow by the name of Rob, is trying to get a music thing going there, so your support will be GREATLY appreciated! Visit the calendar page (see the links on the left?) to find a link to a map so you can find it from wherever you are (even Tuscaloosa, Alabama). The telephone number there is 845.707.3942, and a light bar menu is available.

Of course, there are a lot more dates coming up in the near future, and you can see what they are by visiting the aforementioned calendar page on this very site.

So, here's to 2010 being the best year ever for you and yours. I wish you peace, joy, health, fun and all the best stuff! And, I wish you lots of beautiful music!

Sending love and deepest gratitude,
Marji

To keep abreast of where I'm playing and when, be sure to join my mailing list. There are two links found on most pages. If you let me know what area you're in, I'll make sure you only hear about gigs you can drive to rather than fly to! :-)

Anyway, thanks for visiting!!
